Hedonism: Pain and Pleasure

“Nature has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign masters, pain, and pleasure. It is for them alone to point out what we ought to do, as well as to determine what we shall do” (Bentham 1789: An Introduction to the Principles of Morals and Legislation).

Truth be told, we live at the expense of our own desires. The origins of which might be known to us or desperately concealed. There are times when I think I no longer have the desire to live and laugh. It gets tiring sometimes: living, that is.

Then again, I am succumbed by my desire to LIVE and BE LOVED. No matter how I put it Eros has a stronger hold on me than Thanatos. At the moment, I am watching the hazy road ahead pass me by–not knowing where to turn and when to stop. I am a living zombie and I’ve become numb to notice which hedonist state I’m in at the moment. Normative hedonism or motivational hedonism, I f*cking have no idea.
